Protect What You Love About Our City - Make a Year-End Gift Today
Our 2025 year-end campaign will sustain Preservation Austin’s advocacy in the coming year. Help us reach our $10,000 goal with a gift of $50 or more today.
Austin fell in love with this iconic house at Red River and 38 ½ Streets long before Preservation Austin saved it from demolition. The McFarland family built this Streamline Moderne beauty in 1947, bringing a bit of Miami, Florida, here to Austin, Texas. They enjoyed holidays here, gathering around the piano and even playing in the snow!
Preservation Austin transformed this landmark, now the McFarland-McBee House, into our office and home base. Here, we preserve the memories of the past and create new ones with our community. Preservation Austin advocates for historic places, and the people and cultures who give them meaning. Partner with us today to protect what you love about Austin! Your gift’s impact will last far beyond this holiday season. Thank you so much for your continued support.
Highlights from this past year:
We fought back against developers seeking to demolish East Austin’s Eisenbeiser Building, and defeated Senate Bill 2639, which endangered the future of preservation in Texas.
We supported the designation of Austin’s underrepresented heritage, including Whitehall Co-op, a landmark of women’s history and Texas’s oldest housing co-op.
Our multi-year effort to rehabilitate the beloved McFarland-McBee House as our headquarters was recognized by our statewide colleagues at Preservation Texas.
