We Saved 1500 East 12th Street! #SaveEast12th

Preservation Austin and our partners celebrating our after the vote at City Council (Preservation Austin)

We Got a Landmark for Christmas!

Last night, December 12, Preservation Austin and our partners secured Council's vote to SAVE 1500 East 12th Street from demolition by Eureka Holdings. We needed a supermajority vote of 9 of 11 members to designate and against all odds we GOT EM!

This is major. In all of Austin's history, only a handful of buildings have been designated as landmarks over an owner's objections. The last time this was done was in 2014 when Preservation Austin saved the McFarland-McBee House from demolition.

Preservation Austin would like to extend our deepest thanks to City Council, our community partners, the 1600+ people who signed our petition, and the countless supporters who shared about this case on social media. We could not have done this without you.

WHAT'S NEXT?

This win is just the beginning. There's still so much to do, and Preservation Austin is looking forward to ensuring that this building is thoughtfully restored and the historic East 12th Street corridor is preserved and celebrated for the community.
