Preservation Austin’s 2024 Homes Tour will commence with a Southwind soiree! Join us for our second annual VIP Party to kick off the festivities at an exclusive home not featured during the tour weekend. This special event will showcase Southwind, the former home and studio of famed Abstract Expressionist painter Seymour Fogel. Enjoy delicious beverages and bites while falling under the spell of this magical midcentury home!

Fogel built this distinctive South Austin home using materials from a deconstructed 1880s dairy barn. Over many years, and with the help of friends, he crafted a residence, studio, and gathering place for artists, musicians, and creative thinkers. The South Austin Ranch-style home was inspired by Frank Llyod Wright’s Usonian principles and still features deeply personal original works designed by Fogel including a site-specific mural and hand-crafted built-in furniture. Decades later the property continues to sparkle with creative energy and warm Old Austin vibes.

We’re excited to celebrate with local beverages from Tepetan, Texas Beer Company, and William Chris Wines, and the sonic stylings of DJ Lauren Light. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience one of our city’s most unique artistic and architectural treasures at this VIP event!

Online ticket sales have closed! Please email Sarah Anderson (sarah@preservationaustin.org) if you are interested in purchasing tickets for this event. Tickets will also be for sale at the door.

Thank you to our VIP Party Sponsors!

About the Homes Tour

Preservation Austin debuted our Homes Tour in 1993 in celebration of our nonprofit's 40th birthday. Our goal with this event is to champion diverse neighborhoods and histories citywide to honor the contributions of all those who made Austin what it is today. Each spring, the Homes Tour highlights Austin’s wide breadth of cultural and architectural history, with past tours focusing on the Art of Craftsman Style, the Bouldin Creek neighborhood, and Castle Hill, among many others.
