Known locally as the Casa de Sueños, the Briones House is the best-preserved work of Mexican American artisan and builder Genaro P. Briones, who built the home in stages while residing there with his wife, Carolina. The concrete-block house features brightly tinted sculpted stucco surfaces imitating stone and wood, with whimsical and floral motifs throughout. Featured in our East Austin Barrio Landmarks Project, the Briones House is one of the finest examples of its kind in the state of Texas and a landmark of Mexican American artisanship.
