Support Our 2017 Membership Drive!

News of Austin’s phenomenal growth, and the need to make space for both longtime residents and new ones, is everywhere. Growth and change are nothing new, of course, but we can choose how that growth is implemented to make sure our iconic landmarks and neighborhoods aren’t wiped out in the process. Austin needs a strong voice for historic preservation to make sure that our future builds upon our past, to find solutions to protect the places we love.

Preservation Austin is that voice. Will you make us stronger by supporting our annual Membership Drive today?

If your membership is current, thank you! and if not, please SUPPORT OUR nonprofit BY JOINING OR RENEWing HERE BEFORE AUGUST 31.

Why support Preservation Austin? We spend hundreds (yes, hundreds!) of hours tackling major policy issues and providing community outreach. During this year’s sessions of the Texas Legislature, we fought against bills that would have devastated cities’ ability to protect their heritage. At the local level, we’ve continued to advocate for historic survey funding and for dedicating more hotel occupancy tax revenues to preservation. We successfully assisted in organizing training for our Historic Landmark Commission, bringing in national experts to improve its effectiveness. We work to educate City Council on the importance of preservation and the need to strengthen our preservation ordinance as part of CodeNEXT.

Our essential, hands-on technical assistance includes free local historic district workshops, drawing folks from Crestview to East Cesar Chavez. We give direct guidance to those navigating this difficult process, working with East Austin neighborhoods to draft design standards, and helping Aldridge Place to become Austin’s newest local historic district. Our new Advocacy Tools initiative empowers citizens to speak up for threatened buildings. Our new grant program helps make preservation projects possible citywide.

Along with our 20+ educational programs and events, these are just some of the ways that our nonprofit has worked tirelessly to “Save the Good Stuff” over the last year. Our ability to continue this work, and continue to grow, relies on our community’s support. If you believe in our mission and share our values, please take the next step by contributing to Preservation Austin today.
