Departure of Jacqui Schraad, Executive Director
As a valued member of Preservation Austin (PA), I wanted you to know that I have accepted the position of Executive Director of the Texas State History Museum Foundation, the non-profit that raises money for the Bullock Texas State History Museum. After 10 years leading Preservation Austin, it’s time for me to start a fresh chapter and explore new professional challenges. My tenure at PA has been extremely gratifying, both for the camaraderie of working together with so many remarkable volunteers and talented staff like Angela Reed, and the amazing accomplishments we have all achieved together.
This organization has a venerable history, but I believe we’ve made great strides in the past 10 years while adapting to the challenges and opportunities presented by a changing Austin. For 10 years, PA has been in financial health after suffering a period of yearly losses of $75,000-$100,000. Among many other valuable programs, we most notably launched the Awards Luncheon, Preservation Speaker Night, the Waterloo Society, the Historic Tour App, and rebranded as Preservation Austin. One of the most impactful changes was transforming the Preservation Committed from a small committee of board members to an impressive assembly of experts from across our community which meets twice monthly to monitor and address preservation issues.
None of this would have been possible without members like you, who have supported PA’s work with countless hours volunteering and generous financial support. I share your passion for PA’s mission to save Austin’s cultural heritage, and because of that I have added Preservation Austin as a beneficiary in my will with a planned gift. I encourage you to consider doing the same, and you can read more about PA’s Planned Giving Program here . Of course, I will continue to support the good work of PA, and look forward to seeing even more progress in the coming years.
